Important sanctions campaign of the DGT from April 1.
Starting next February 1 and until March 31, the General Directorate of Traffic will inform all owners of vehicles that are not insured of the penalties that this entails. After this period, as of April 1, all vehicle owners who do not have compulsory insurance will be sanctioned directly.. This will be made possible through the crossing of data between the vehicles registered in traffic and the insured vehicles in the FIVA file.
What is the FIVA file?
The FIVA is the Information File of Insured Vehicles. The purpose of this file is:
- Provide the necessary information so that the people involved in a traffic accident can find out, as soon as possible, the insurance company that covers the civil liability of each of the vehicles involved in the accident.
- Facilitate the control of the obligation that motor vehicle owners have to have an insurance contract in force that covers the civil liability of the driver.
Who is responsible for the ticket for driving without insurance?
The person responsible for the fine for driving without insurance will be the owner of the vehicle.
However, the civil and criminal liability of those who drive a vehicle without insurance for damages caused to others rests with the driver. The owner of the vehicle, who does not have to be the driver, will respond civilly except if he proves that the vehicle had been stolen. For this reason, it is very important that when a vehicle is stolen from us, we report it immediately.
