Last October, Royal Decree 667/2015 came into force, which modifies the Traffic Regulations. In this article we report on the latest developments in traffic and road safety as a result of this legislative reform.
When should minors travel in the rear seats of the vehicle?
The most notable novelty is the one referring to the occupation of vehicles by minors. Those minors with a height equal to or less than 135 cm. must travel in the rear seats, with some exceptions. These exceptions are:
- That the vehicle does not have rear seats.
- That all the rear seats are occupied by other minors.
- That it is not possible to install approved child restraint systems on the rear seats.
However, in the aforementioned cases, minors must always use approved child restraint systems adapted to their size and weight.
Failure to use approved seat belts and child restraint systems will be considered a serious or very serious offence.
BTP class driving license is abolished
The BTP permit is one that until now authorizes the driving of priority vehicles when they circulate in urgent service, vehicles that carry out school transport and vehicles intended for the transport of passengers, whose maximum authorized mass does not exceed 3.500 kg and that the number of seats, including the driver, does not exceed nine. With the entry into force of this legislative reform, said circulation permit is abolished. These vehicles may be driven with other categories already included in the single community permit, provided that the category of the driving license required depending on the vehicle in question is in force.
