One of the dire consequences of the economic crisis for the insurance sector is the increase in the number of households that do not have any type of insurance. Specifically, houses without insurance have increased by 13,3% between 2007 and 2013
In total, in Spain there are more than eight and a half million uninsured homes, a figure that represents 30% of homes in this country. Also, until ten million more households have a policy that barely meets the most basic coverage and that, in the event of an accident, it would entail great losses for its owners
The figures indicate that It was the first years of the crisis when contracting these insurances suffered the most. Specifically, while in 2007 68,7% of Spanish households had a policy of this type, just three years later this percentage had fallen by 4,6% to 64,1%. However, from that moment the amount of home insurance began to pick up, up to the current 66,5%, which corresponds to a total of 16,9 million households.
The Canary Islands have been especially affected by this situation, and it is very important to make homeowners aware of the need to seek a solution to home insurance.
